Sharon Wilson speaks to Red Cross volunteer Amy Miller and explains what happened to her last Saturday morning. Sharon heard the tornado sirens early Saturday morning in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She looked outside her window but didn’t see a lot happening so she continued what she was doing. A little later she looked out her window again and she could see a tornado warning beacon flashing in the distance. This time she headed the warning and ran for cover in her bathtub and hoped for the best. Not long after she could hear a roar of wind and debris falling while the whole house shook. Right after the tornado passed a neighbor came to the house. “Are you alright?” he called out to her. “I don’t know” she replied, “I’m here in the bathroom”. “When I got out, I saw how it had ruined my home. The walls of my bedroom had collapsed, the roof was damaged and rain was pouring in. My front door was gone and my living room was now an outdoor space,” she says. Although her home of 17 years was now a shambles, Sharon was left uninjured. “The only thing I can do now is rebuild,” she says. But for the time being, home is now at the American Red Cross managed shelter at Jennings Creek Elementary School in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
