Volunteering with the American Red Cross for over 20 years, Suzan Stafford, whom is trained as a psychologist has been hosting workshops with veterans to help them with their transition back to civilian life. “It’s quite touching to hear some of their stories. You do a series of four and as they get to know you a little better, they start talking more about their experiences, both in battlefield, but also how they felt when they came back and that to me is humbling because they trust you enough, they appreciate what you’re trying to do enough, that they are willing to open up to you.” In addition to using her education to help service members, she ties in her experiences, as part of a military family. As she advocates and aids veterans, her biggest goal is to, “try to determine what their needs are and how we might meet them,” as “I think this is an important part of our community, the armed forces”.
